L'Hermitage Gantois (France)
L'Hermitage Gantois is a luxury hotel in Lille that started life in the 15th century as a hospice. The last great city of France on the way to Brussels in the Nord Pas-de-Calais, Lille is a growing economic zone built around one of the most picturesque city centres in France and at its heart is a new project that has been warmly welcomed by the officials charged with protecting its heritage - L'Hermitage Gantois. A hotel that remembers its past, the chapel and many of the original paintings of the building are beautifully integrated into the hotel's surroundings. The hotel is just a five-minute walk from the centre of Lille's Old Town and is within easy access of the Palais des Beaux Arts, Le Musée de l'Hospice Comtesse, La Vieille Bourse and the Citadel in Vauban. L'Hermitage Gantois is also just eight miles from Lille airport.
Services
The austere walls and vaulted ceilings of L'Hermitage Gantois are paragons of modern design. A vast atrium covers the old yard, now a gleaming concourse, reception, lounge and bar while the 66 guest rooms (a choice of three types) are lustrous in their luxury, décor and technology. Master chef Sebastien Blanchet has added his signature to two gastronomic restaurants. The old gardens, neat and scented with roses, offer a quiet spot for contemplation.
Location: Within minutes of Lille's numerous attractions, L'Hermitage Gantois is located on Rue de Paris, just a five-minute walk from the old quarter of Lille with its 17th-century Flemish buildings including La Vieille Bourse and the Musee de l'Hospice Comtesse. The Palais des Beaux Arts is one of France's finest museums outside Paris with paintings by Van Dyck, Rubens and Goya and is a short distance from the hotel. The Citadel and Lille Zoo are just a mile way with upmarket shopping within a ten-minute walk.
